The Woman Who Wants More

Identity and Purpose

Who are we when we stop introducing ourselves by what we do?

A woman in a plum dress looking toward the light through an open curtain

For a long time, I measured progress by what I was accomplishing.

The work I was doing. The responsibilities I was managing. The people who depended on me. The next thing that needed my attention.

And there was always a next thing.

I don't regret building a life filled with purpose and responsibility. Those experiences have shaped me in meaningful ways.

But I've also learned that it's possible to be proud of everything you've built and still wonder what else is waiting for you.

Sometimes we become so accustomed to introducing ourselves through our titles that we forget to make room for the person underneath them.

The woman with interests she hasn't explored. Ideas she hasn't pursued. Questions she hasn't answered. Parts of herself she may have set aside while taking care of everything else.

Wanting more doesn't always mean wanting a different life.

Sometimes it means wanting to experience the life you already have more fully.

Sometimes it means giving yourself permission to change direction, pursue something new, or simply acknowledge that what once fulfilled you may no longer be enough.

And that doesn't erase the value of anything you've already accomplished.

I've come to believe that becoming requires us to remain curious about ourselves.

Not just about what we can achieve, but about who we're growing into along the way.

We can appreciate where we've been and still make room for where we're going.
